Dental Implants in Townsville

What is the solution?

There are several ways to replace missing teeth involving dentures, bridges and implants. Dental implants are a common procedure to replace missing teeth nowadays. They can also provide stability to a new or existing denture.

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant utilizes a titanium screw instead of a natural tooth root surgically placed into the jawbone for fitting onto crowns, bridges, and dentures. This solution is useful for replacing one or many teeth.

The composition of dental implants

Osseointegrated dental implants are biologically inert titanium with very little chance of your body rejecting the foreign material. The implants are placed in your jaw under local anaesthetic, with or without sedation. Completed either in the practice or under general anaesthetic in a day surgery unit.

Implant-borne dental crowns are a combination of porcelain, zirconium and or dental gold bonding alloy. They are strong, sturdy and colour-matched to your natural teeth. Once a dental crown is attached to your implant, it will look and feel like a natural tooth.

The dental implant process

When you visit NQ Surgical Dentistry in Townsville, Dr Priestland will discuss all the options open to you. He will then advise you on the most appropriate treatment. In order for implant dentistry to be successful, you will need to have adequate bone volume to accommodate the implant. If, however, you do not have adequate bone volume, Dr Priestland is qualified in various bone grafting techniques to achieve improved bone availability and shape to allow for implant placement.

The number of appointments necessarily varies extensively between patients depending on their clinical situation. However, integration of the implant into the jawbone requires a healing period of three to six months.
