Restore function, the appearance of your smile, and your confidence with implant-retained dentures
At NQ Surgical Dentistry we provide implant-retained dentures and implant-supported dentures. The benefits of dentures stabilised with implants include:
- Ending the inconvenience of denture adhesives
- Improving speech
- Loading jawbone thereby maintaining bone structure
- Restoring the ability to eat all the foods you enjoy
Those with upper dentures will know that eating with dentures can be successful. However the same cannot be said for the lower denture. It is a matter of logic. The lower denture lies on a horseshoe-shaped pad of gum; on the inside, there is a moving tongue, in front moving lips, and outside moving cheeks. How can a lower denture be expected to remain stable?
Our solution for you
To treat this problem we place dental implants usually made of pure titanium, into the jaw. Onto the healed implants, two-part precision attachments are fitted: one into the implant and the other into the denture. This allows the denture to “clip-in” and remain firm during functioning. These are called implant-retained over-dentures.
An implant-supported denture can be smaller and generally far more acceptable and natural-feeling. Dentures can be provided which are screwed or clipped onto a bar that is fixed on the implants.
Such removable dentures retained by clips allow the patient to remove the denture from the bar to achieve far more effective plaque control, in turn maintaining the tissues around the implants in a more healthy state. Such a level of cleaning is required to ensure the long-term success of implants, otherwise, a form of gum disease will lead to loss of bone around the implants leading to their failure.
All surgery carries inherent risks and complications and it is especially important that you understand and accept these risks prior to proceeding. This may include seeking a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
Our in-house hygienist provides a FREE appointment at the end of all implant treatments to ensure that patients understand the most effective methods for cleaning.
