Kylie chose dental nursing as her preferred work after completion of her apprenticeship as a chef.
Our Dental Nurse
She started working in general dentistry in Townsville achieving her Certificate 3 in Dental Nursing in 2010. With an interest in progressing her dental career, she applied for a position at NQ Surgical Dentistry with the hope of broadening her experience.
After a relatively short time in this practice, Kylie passed her Certificate 4 in Dental Radiography and then proceeded to pass the certificate in extra-oral cone beam tomography at the University of Queensland Dental Hospital, Brisbane. Gradually increasing the spectrum of surgical procedures in which she has been involved as a surgical nurse, Kylie is now widely experienced in surgical assisting. She works both in the practice and in operating theaters in the Mater Hospital Day Surgery Unit.
Experience
Kylie is involved in oral surgery, implant surgery, provides support to our experienced dental hygienist, Sharon Everett providing periodontal therapy, and supports Dr. Colin Priestland in his provision of restorative dental care of phobic dental patients under intravenous sedation in the practice and under general anaesthetic in the hospital for paediatric dentistry, and restorative care of medically compromised patients and developmentally challenged patients.
Kylie feels that she has developed skills and greater knowledge by taking on this challenging role at NQ Surgical Dentistry. She particularly enjoys the enormous spectrum of treatment that is offered covering almost all aspects of dentistry and oral surgery.
